About Me and My Therapy Approach

A Licensed Professional Here to Guide You

Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to get into a career path that would make a difference in people’s lives. This interest led me to study psychology. As a licensed Psychologist in the greater Seattle area, I am committed to the well-being of all my clients.

I have been a psychologist for 26 years. During that time I have done counseling and therapy with numerous people with many presenting life areas and struggles. My main focus has been to help trauma survivors heal and thrive. To that end, I have studied and apply a variety of approaches best known as integrative approaches due to their combination of knowledge about how our bodies and neurobiology interact with our attachment styles and environment to influence our thoughts, feelings, body sensations and behavior. Some of these approaches include EMDR, Brainspotting, Mindfulness, Somatic Approaches and Lifespan Integration.

The approaches I use attempt to heal any disruption to our natural state by mindfully integrating the healing of neuropathways with body/mind awareness. This type of healing usually goes deeper and "sticks" in ways that traditional talk therapy doesn't always accomplish.

In traditional talk therapy, clients are taught how to change their thinking with the hope that affect (feeling) and somatic (body) relief will follow. For a trauma survivor who is often in fight/flight/freeze/numb mode, these thinking strategies don't take hold because the brain is too overwhelmed to access the information the person has learned.

We will try to help you learn to remain in a window of tolerance in which you do not feel shut down or overly activated. From that space, healing is more easily achieved. When the brain is in a calmer state, people are better able to learn new information and to access information and skills previously learned.

Northwest Integrative Psychotherapy, INC PS Welcomes You

Peggy S Wood, PhD
Licensed Psychologist

Do you feel like you can't quit thinking about painful things that happened to you? Do you wish you could be more like the "you" before the trauma happened? Trauma can make you feel lonely and afraid. You can feel torn between wanting to talk about what happened versus keeping it all locked inside. I know it's hard to take that first step to get help, but once you start to talk about it with someone who knows how to help you heal, you can begin to work to reclaim the life you feel you lost.

Creative People

I also enjoy working with people in the creative arts. It's difficult to make a living in the creative arts. People often don't understand or support creative people in ways that really help them follow their passion. Sometimes creative blocks occur. If any of these are struggles for you, contact me.
